Eloise Dobeck, An Amazing Life
Eloise (Louise) A. [Walz] Dobeck was born on May 30, 1931 on a farm outside of Roscoe, South Dakota. Times were hard and her childhood not ideal. Determined to improve her life, she moved to Mobridge, South Dakota at age 19 where she began training at the local hospital as a nurse. It was in Mobridge that she met her future husband–Mac Dobeck.
She and Mac were married in Omaha, Nebraska on August 6, 1955. During the next ten years they moved to Southern California and had four children: Louise, Michael, Elizabeth, and Michelle. Louise transitioned from working as a labor-delivery nurse to full-time homemaker. Her home was filled with friends and family, as well as a variety of pets including: dogs, cats, rabbits, mice, ducks, and assorted birds, turtles and fish. At one point there was even a chipmunk in the family!
Over the years, Louise and Mac built a successful business, and raised and educated four children who eventually married and moved away from Southern California. Eight grandchildren joined the family. She and her adult daughters began taking yearly “girls trips”. One of her favorites was to the Enchantment Resort in Sedona, Arizona to celebrate her 75th birthday!
In 2002 Mac and Louise retired to Las Vegas, Nevada and Alpine Lake, West Virginia, and shortly after celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Always an avid reader Louise spent her retirement reading hundreds of books, enjoying her family and friends, entertaining in her West Virginia home, keeping abreast of politics, and spoiling her dogs.
During her last year, Louise may have lost her hair, but she never lost her sense of humor. Despite her fatigue, she delighted in visits from friends and family. She was grateful for her amazing life.
